We've been coming to the Village Squire for multiple years, and its normally one of our favorite places to go, normally get Rum Barrels to go in addition to our meal and drinks. This recent experience, however was not great. There was nobody manning the front of the shop and we waited for several minutes. Despite coming early when there were plenty of tables, we got seated amongst a lot of people. Our server abandoned us halfway through, we couldn't even eat our food because we didn't have beverages, and the server said "onions were diced" for my daughter's burger, when they were long strips that she hated. Eventually after visiting the two tables next to us multiple times, she finally got our next drink order. To add insult to injury, when we asked for boxes and the check, she put the check and check holder (which sits on a lot of tables) inside our food boxes. The food was still amazing, though I'll forever mourn the loss of the Italian Beef eggrolls with their new menu rollout. I'm hoping the service is an outlier.

I’ve been to all the Village Squire locations over the years, and while they’re all great, this Village Squire location is hands-down my favorite. The food is consistently fantastic—every visit delivers. Whether it’s a full dinner or just stopping in, you can count on quality and flavor every single time. The ambiance is another level. The decor has so much character, warm and inviting with a unique charm that makes you want to sit back, relax, and stay awhile. What really puts this place over the top is the staff. The service is always spectacular—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they care about the experience just as much as the food. Honestly, if I lived closer, I’d probably be here every day. That’s how much I enjoy it. This location truly stands out as something special.

Mondays they serve Broasted Chicken they offer it Tuesday also but that’s a hit or miss depending on how busy they were on Monday. I had the upgraded French onion soup. I personally would have preferred it to be hotter but taste wise it was very good. I particularly liked the crispy onions on top. Included with meal was a small coleslaw and a small beans. Both were good and compliment the chicken. The chicken is lightly breaded and has a great taste. Also very juicy. Service was wonderful and I like that the manager goes and makes sure the patrons are satisfied and happy. Now I want to mention my drink. I normally do not drink alcoholic beverages but a drink made with Tito Vodka and lemon aid was a very good drink. This was the first time I had this refreshing drink and it was lemon tasting. I know vodka was there being I don’t drink and I felt small effect. I really recommend the drink. I forgot the name but it was sugar Tito lemonade. I also recommend The Village Squire (South Elgin).

"Love the cozy, castle-like atmosphere here! The complimentary popcorn is a fun touch while you browse the huge menu. We sat by the fireplace, which made for a perfect evening. The Saganaki (flaming cheese) is a must-order every single time!"

Its like a little castle in the downtown area..very quaint and inviting. This was my 1st time being there and I have to say the food was excellent. Our server Amy made sure we had plenty of drink and refills.. we ordered the Broasted chicken 🐔 and let me say we all enjoyed it. The garlic mashed potatoes on the plate was freaking good..Definitely coming back soon
